Master Nakajima began his study of Japanese calligraphy at the age of 6 and continued to develop his skill through his postgraduate school years where he graduated with a degree in Industrial Engineering Study, also known as “Architectonics”, from Chiba University.
Japanese calligraphy is a traditional art form that is highly developed in Japan. Most professional calligraphers become teachers in private institutions; however, Master Nakajima has been establishing a new precedent for which those that have mastered this art can follow.
In his thirties, he came to the conclusion of becoming a full time artist and began creating contemporary works based on Japanese calligraphy. In 2000, he held a private exhibition at a modern art gallery in Rome that was to mark the beginning of his internationalization and a new era of modern Japanese calligraphy. In the exhibition, his works were recognized as abstract pieces using Japanese characters as their themes. He has also started to incorporate his study of Tai Chi in his performances to further express his emotions in his artwork.
Japan Arts Design is the official USA representative for world renown Japanese master artist/ calligrapher Hiroyuki Nakajima.
